1000 Rs was first issued in 1954 & demonetized on 16th January, 1978. Reverse is Tanjore Temple or Brihadeeswarar Temple (popularly known as Big Temple) at Thanjavur in TamilNadu, South India. This is the world's first complete granite temple built in 1010 AD by King Raja Raja Chola. The temple is part of the UNESCO World Hertitage Site "Great Living Chola Temples".
